Police in 2015

Currently there seems to be a heightened mistrust of our nation’s police force. There have been unjustified killings across the country, there have been cover-ups and the media is hungry to keep reporting these incidents. I do think there is general distrust towards all police departments but I have to be frank-as a law abiding citizen if a cops tells me to pull over-get out of my car-get on the ground-put my hand behind my back-I will comply with everything even if I did nothing wrong. I have seen a few of these shootings on the videos and every time the person that was shot did not comply with the officer’s orders. Now, I do not mean to justify these killings because I do believe that based on these videos, the shooting were not justified. The subjects did not seem to pose a life threat to the officers yet they were still shot. I am not so much interested with the current state of this situation but a lot more with the consequences of the actions by all parties- those crucifying all cops, those supporting cops no matter what and the police departments across the country. My theory is that cops across the country have had to deal with a changing society that has led them to somehow become frivolous and less tolerant of people’s reckless behavior. The behavior I have seen on these videos show people being reckless with their actions. My theory lies on the fact that these police shooting are occurring in red and blue states, meaning that whatever has driven to this behavior in our police force is societal. Now that the cops have become less tolerant, we as a society are becoming less tolerant of our cops. The point I like to make here is that this is not a safe and very unproductive eco system. As I said, I do not care about what is driving this, I want to dwell on what we need to do to get out of this vicious cycle were we as a society chastise and distrust our offices and they become less and less tolerant and are more willing to shoot to kill. In a mathematical equation you must change on one side of the equation the same change you made to the other side of the equal sign. The movie the Matrix illustrates this point, the rise of Neo’s power gives rise to the agent Smith’s power. Smith himself explains that the Matrix is trying to compensate the unbalance Neo has created in the system. So I wonder, can we disband entire police departments or will we learn to comply with police orders? Can we change our behavior in order to expect our cops to change their behavior? Police shootings are but a consequence of how our society is changing and it is obviously not changing for the best. Again, we need focus more on how to change our society as opposed to trying to focus on how we will chastise our police force. We as a society have done something that has lead our police force to distrust us and have less regard for our lives and we are now the ones who seem to have less trust for their actions and less regard for their lives. I have to point out that many anti-gun protestors say that the only ones who should carry guns legally is the policy, yet it seems these same people are the ones protesting the most against our police. What would happen if a 2nd amendment supporter is shot at by police- will this person shoot back? Any scenario with pro and anti-gun people just does not seem to have desirable outcomes. I do not know what the answer is to my hypothesis, I’m merely asking questions at this point but I will spend more time trying to answer my own questions.
